Members Only 2008

The 'Members Only' heralds the end of the trout season and is held on Loch Meig on the last Saturday before the season ends. The prizes are the Hydro Quaich presented to the top rod, the SGL Quaichs for each rod in the top boat and the Sports and Model Shop Trophy for the heaviest trout.

The day dawned with a chilly NW wind and torrential rain forecast for mid morning. Normally you can rely on our friends at the Met office to get the weather forecast totally wrong but on this occasion they were spot on. However 13 hardy members braved the elements, revved up their engines and tore off up and down the loch. As the day wore on the rain teemed down and the loch rose at an alarming rate. In these conditions you would expect the trout to be down deep, but the weigh in showed the exact opposite. Most of the competitors blanked apart from those that fished hard on the top. Somehow our Chairman, Lewis Ross managed to catch 5 good trout, all on the floater, to various flies. Unfortunately his boat partner, who will remain nameless caught squat and the pair just missed out on the best boat. Ali Morrison and Davie More also had 2 good trout on the surface. All those that went down sub surface blanked.

The results are as follows

• Top rod : Lewis Ross with 5 trout for 5lb 14¼oz (Hydro Quaich Winner)

• Heavist trout : Ali Morrison 3lb 11⅜oz (Sports and Model Shop Trophy Winner)

• Best boat : Ali Morrison and Dave More with 2 trout for 6lb 4⅞oz. (SGL Quaich Winners)

After the weigh-in the presentations were held at the Conon Hotel where a buffet was laid on. Sincere thanks go out to our new sponsors SGL plus the Sports and Model shop who jointly, have augmented the Hydro Quaich and raised the profile of this very enjoyable day out. Our thanks also go to the Conon Hotel for there hospitality and excellent catering throughout the season.
